The similarities and difference of American Values with Korea - Jacob

The similarities

First of all, both of Korea and American is both of the countries are well developed.

This pictue is taken from a school building in Old Miss University. As you see, the buliding looks like the symbol of the Ole Miss University. The facilities of the school doesn't give us much problems at all. They have almost everything we need. It's almost same in our country. We don't have any difficulties for us to studying in school. Both of the countries are well provided with the facilities

Second, Both countries thinks that education is very important. This picture is taken 4 am in one of the rooms in the library. I thought we are the only country who studies all day long. But I figure out that our country is not the only country who crams into study and sleep less the whole time. If you step out of the world, you still have lot to learn.

Third, we share our cultures to each other as well. We can see many Kim-chi and Kim-bap in the United States. Moreover, I can see Hyundai cars, Samsung Electronics, LG television, and more on. In our country, you can see at least one McDonald's in every block. Almost everything sign is written in English. I think globalization is right ahead of us. I'm very proud of my country.

The difference

The left side is about America, and the right side is about South Korea.

Traveling

Americans don't rely on their cameras as much as the Korean does. I think enjoying and seeing the sight could be enough. But Koreans are busy to take pictures and uploading to take care of their precious blogs.

Taking turns
Americans usually stay in line and wait for their turn, but Koreans are used to 'fast fast' culture. They don't have much patience as I thought. For example, when you try to get on the bus, there is no such thing as 'lines'.

Party
You can see party usually in the States, it is important to develop relationship. In Korea, we're used to dining together at night. We all gather around and enjoy grilling meat with alcohol to relax our friendship or relationship.

Anger
I think this part is mentioned by Tamara. Usually Japaness and Koreans don't show their feelings easily to people. They show smily faces to people, but it's hard to predict their feelings. That sometimes give people alot of stress.

Boss
This is the part what I 100% agree. In Korea, we have to bow down to elders and bosses to show them respect. It's a society with full of authorites which they think is important. I don't think they exaggerate too much about respect in America.

Conversation
In America, people usually say the point of the conversations. But in Korea, somehow they talk in zig-zag till they get tired. I know how stuffy this feels.

Restaurant
In America, they don't talk too loud while eating in a restaurant. But in Korea, you can see almost all the people talking loud enough that you can hardly here your friends talking.

Keep the Time
This is almost every people agree with it. In America, people are usually punctual when they decide when to meet. But in Korea, it's almost impossible for everybody to meet in time. There's always a catch.

Solving the problem

This can be false, but I think this kind of fit here. In America, when they face a problem, they just solve it at that moment. But in Korea, they tried to avoid the problem as possible as they can.

Me (myself)
This is how confident they feel inside themselves. In America, they always have alot of confident inside. In statistics, the American is the top of the confident percentage. But in Korea, it's not easy to have confident all the time.

Relationships
In America, you don't have to be friends with everybody because it depends on you. But in Korea, everybody tries to get along with everyone because somehow, the personal connection is very important in our country.

In my results, the two countries can be very different as it can be. The individual behavior is one of it. But what I think is if we share our good cultures to each other, it can make a better world for all of us.

  1. I think Korea has changed a lot since then. With keeping the time and restaurant noise, Koreans do keep there time precisely as well as stay quietly in the restaurants.
