Korea & America

Korea & America Kate

There are many kinds of countries in this world and various own cultures in each country. From now on I am going to contrast Korea with America. First, I’ll introduce the Korean value and assumption and then American things.
Above all, let’s see the Korean family. Most Korean parents care about their children when they grow up and become adults, even after they married. Actually parents care all the things that are associated with children. Also the children’s independent age is more than 25year old. Depending on people, even when they married but they can’t be independent from their parents.
Second, Koreans tend to regard formal things as important things. Some people say that Koreans like formal things, Koreans are formal people. Whenever people do something with others, they think formality. For example, teachers should wear suit or very neat clothes in school. They shouldn’t wear casual attire. And they shouldn’t instruct with sitting on chair. It’s very daily example.

Third, Koreans are not that punctual. For instance, most teachers don’t care the time when their instruction is not finished or they want to teach more (but it depends on the teachers) though Koreans think that keeping an appointment is important basically. Therefore, they usually finished the class later than they are supposed to finish.

Let’s look at the American value and assumption. First, the American family is different from Korean. When children become almost 20, they are independent from their parents. Also, parents start thinking their own last lives and don’t care their children’s life too much. Even the children used to marry whom they want without the parents’ allowance.

Second, the American tends to make people feel comfortable and free because they don’t think formal things as important as Koreans do. On the contrast to Korean teachers, the American teachers often instruct sitting on a chair and wear very casual clothes in school.

Last, the American is punctual. In class, they not only start the class on time also finish the class on time. I looked through each three things about the Korean and the American cultures. Although looking only three things, there are many different things between Korea and America. Also there might be similar or same things. In this global society, we need to understand other countries’ own cultures and make an effort to know different cultures.
